of interest
The majority of Longship Company voyages and other activities are conducted in casual clothing appropriate for the circumstances. However, those wishing to take part in filming and photo shoots of historical scenes, living history demonstrations, historical reenactments, etc., will want to acquire period appropriate clothing and accessories. Its best to start out very basic, as the more elaborate one gets, the more effort is required to remain authentic. There is also often a reluctance to allow elaborate, expensive/labor-intensive garments to pick up realistic amounts of wear and dirt; it being very unconvincing that one has rowed for days and fought in heated battles, or been working around a medieval farmstead or kitchen, if ones clothes look like they just came back from the tailor or dry cleaners. If you are interested in period clothing, its best to talk to members who share your degree of interest e.g. those who wear period clothing only for filming/photo shoots will have perspective and criteria different from those heavily into reenacting and insistent on authenticity in all details of materials and construction rather than just the end visual result. Some very basic guidelines are given here:- Preliminary

- Viking
Striptease
A 25 minute long video explanation and demonstration of basic Viking period clothing, weapons, etc., made by a couple of our reenactor members . It presents the sort of clothing and armor that would have been worn by the Viking/Norman fighters at the time of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 - the twilight of the Viking era - which is somewhat different from the image of shaggy barbarian berserkers (the word "berserk" coming from the Old Norse "bear shirt") that is commonly associated with the term Viking. (Despite the word "Striptease" in the title, it is rather tame, i.e. PG rated, but some of the other videos suggested on the youtube page may not be)
